The board may be dead, but I've been busy in preparation for Moab.

Here is the Jeep with the front suspension torn out and all brackets removed from axle  and frame.

The ram and orbital for full hydro. I dont want to mount the ram until I have all of the suspension links / brackets on.

And the beefy 1.25" heims.

ATLAS should be in tomorrow!
ORI struts "should" be in next week. Hopefully...

Im David, im new to the forum, but i have been in Lubbock for about 1.5 years now.
i dont have any toys anymore....   and im from East Texas, we dont play in rocks there, we are all about the MUD.
I have a 2002 Tahoe LT 4x4 that is getting a set of 33 soon.  it has a 3in body with front lift keys.
past toys were
(my daily driver, and my first vehicle) 79 Jeep CJ7 with 33's
85 K5 Blazer on 39 boggers
(my brother's Daily Driver that i used to play in)  99 Dodge 3/4 4X4 on 40's
the project that i never finished was a 86 Toyota that was going to get a Dana 60 front, 70 rear and a Chevy 350, but i decided to come back to school, so i sold the truck and the axles are at my dads next to the shop.

i also worked at a Arctic Cat Dealer in Kilgore where i build Quiet a few Atv's with 12+ inches of lift
built a few Polaris'  My buddys that i modified was a 425 straight axle (the only series of polaris that was a standard shift) and we put a set of 28's that would air up to 33"tall and it would clear a 5gal bucket with plenty of room in the front, and the straight axle in the back would also clear.  (next time i go home, i will find some pictures for you)

*edit*
I uploaded a picture in my avitar that shows what kind of people I used to Roll With
Thats a picture of a guy named Scott,
I did some work on it, and built motors for bikes like it, and it shows the kind of Suspension work I used to do!!

Looking good Ely, you failed to mention the atlas though??? I dont know what the deal with your air struts are, but there is a guy on texas4x4 that has a pair of brand new 16" air struts for sale, just a little fyi incase something happens.

Yeah got a good deal on the atlas off of pirate. 4.3 Atlas II.

I saw those. If I dont get mine in soon, I might try to get those from him. Only thing I dont like about them is that they are anodized red.

Whats your beef with heims? Noisy? Have you seen one fail? The ones on my steering have held up great for the couple of years they have been on there.

Update:

Got the Atlas in and the shifters set up. That bitch was heavy and I dont have a tranny jack. Shifters were a pain in the ass to set up but I think it came out pretty clean. Made my own shifter knobs.

Starting to locate everything where I want it in the front. I think I am going to set it up at full bump to make sure everything clears. This is pretty much full bump in the front with close to a zero degree approach. Wheelbase is about 106" right now. When I do the rear, I can stretch it a couple more inches also.

Looks good man, the jeep looks mean with the front axle stretched out like that. I would run heims too, I have a flex joint on my taction bar and it blows...

I know a lot of guys that run the atlas 2 dont run any kind of rear support, but some do. If it was me, I would get an atlas support ring and fab something up my self. I know my doubler is a lot heavier, but I had it supported by the adapter bracket between the range box and 205, so it was just basically the 205 hanging off the back. Its about 120 lb (which I think an atlas is around that too?) and it didnt take long for it to break the tailhousing on my tranny. Just my 2 cents, I know how much like to mash on the skinny pedal...

i give those heims 3 weekend trips and they will start maiking noise, them youll have to by new ones to replace them, and knowing you Ely, the clanking will drive your crazy.

And i would also say that your will bend a shank on one of those heims in the future.

I love the stance bud, looks good.

why does the flex joint blow joe? has it broken, make noise? If it makes noise, you can tighten it up with a turn of the wrench, heim you cant do that.

Theres no way that the rubber cups on the inside of my currie flex joint are going to last longer than the teflon in a heim joint. Its only been on one run, but I couldnt tell you if it makes any noise because the whole vehicle creeps and pops. I didnt much like the fact that I had grind on it either to put it together. My 7/8 heims have held up fine on my full hydro, I made a new tie rod a few months ago and used the same heims again. My old .25 wall tie rod was bent pretty bad when I took it off.

Given the same moment, the material in a 1.25" shank will be stressed more than the material used in the link (assuming you use something like a 2" DOM link), but its probably never going to see near the moment that the link does. The biggest moment is always going to be next to where the load is applied (on a simply supported beam) and it would be pretty hard to load it up close to the joint. Not saying it cant happen, but I think you will bend the link long before you bend 1.25" heim. That said, I agree the flex joint it stronger from a bending stand point.

if you used the currie joint, and you had to grind the rubber, you put it together wrong, the currie joint requires to be pressed together.

With the flex joint you have more surface area over the Nylatron GS (found in summit machine flex joints) then the Teflon in the Heim joint. Also the Nylatron GS is harder the teflon. so in turn the flex joint last longer from wear and tear.

I not saying the heims wont be strong, I'm saying they wont last as long as a flex joint.

Damn, I didnt know you busted the tail housing! That 203/205 doubler is a massive assembly. The shipping weight on the atlas was 113 lbs. Have a link for one of the support rings?

Guess I'll have to put the stereo back in. Isn't the shank on a JJ the same size? I want the lowers to be adjustable just in case I bend one of the links I can adjust the length a little on the trail. The lowers and upper in the front are all going to be 2" .250 DOM. I have plenty of extra 2" that I can use to make new lowers if I bend one.

I understand why the flex joints are probably a little stronger. This is only if you get the adjustable ones and keep them tight. I'm not one to keep up with that. Also, I think  you can only get them with a 9/16" bolt (unless you spend some big money on Ballistic's stuff) which is a little smallish if your doing some jumping and high speed stuff. Don't count me out on wanting to jump my junk. These heims with misalignment spacers use a 3/4" bolt.

Bottom line is I picked this stuff up for about half the price of new and its only been mocked up. If I bought it all new, I probably would have gotten the adjustable JJ's with a shank.

Interesting about the nylatron gs, I stand corrected. I didnt grind down the rubber though, I pressed it all together and still couldnt get snap ring. Even as is, its still stiff as a board. If I was going to do a flex joint again though, I would get one of those summit ones you used.

Heres a link to what I am talking about: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=733986&highlight=atlas+support+ring

Its made by Roark. I broke the tailhousing when I was down in Houston just playing around at spring creek. I think the combo of weight and torque from the front output did it in. Only thing about that ring kit is that the poly bushing is going to be a lot more stiff than your engine/tcase mounts (assuming they are oem ones).

on the support ring, you could make something that bolted to the atlas pretty easily, but i would recommend to put the bushing in line with you transmission bushing and try to use the same bushing for the t-case that is used on the transmission.

you want to allow the transfer case to move with the transmission in the same way, if you use a harder bushing or the bushing is off to the side on the t-case, you run the risk of cracking your transmission housing.
