Tech Offroad By Laws

Tech Offroad Bylaws

Adopted: March 6th, 2006

Article I:

    This organization shall be known as Tech Offroad.

Article II:

   Tech Offroad is organized as a non-profit organization for the purpose of:

       1) Providing social, educational, and recreational activities and experiences for its members.

       2) Participating in and supporting civic activities for betterment of the community such as community service and preventing land closures do to irresponsible recreational use.

Article III: Membership and Dues

       1) All students, faculty, and alumni of Texas Tech are eligible for membership.

       2) All members must conduct themselves in a respectable and orderly fashion during club activities or while representing the club and abide by Texas Tech University Student Affairs Handbook Code of Student Conduct. Any member disgracing him/herself or participating in wanton, willing or reckless disregard for public and/or private property will be dismissed from the club. Expelled members may request readmission by majority vote of the active club members.

       3) Members must be at least 18 years of age or have their parents consent to join.

       4) Applicants must submit a completed membership application and membership fee of $40.

       5) Members shall notify the club upon address/telephone changes.

       6) Once a member has stopped payment of his/her yearly dues, this member's club status falls into inactive.

 

 

Article IV: Administration and Duties

    President: shall reside over all meetings and shall be present at all events whenever possible. He/she shall be the executive officer and shall have the duty to carry out the policies and decisions of the club majority.

    Vice-President and Membership Coordinator: Shall be responsible for this web page and any duties the President cannot carry out. Also be in charge of club sticker dispersement, due collection, and calling members for meetings, runs, and other related activities.  

    S.O.A.C Representative and Events Coordinator: Shall attend the SOAC meetings as this organizations representative.  Plan activities that include trips, social gatherings, and community service.

    Treasurer: shall be responsible for all membership dues and bank transactions

Elections

       1) Club officers will be elected at the last meeting of each year with terms lasting one year.

       2) Candidates for election must be regular members and in good standing with the club.

       3) Nominations and volunteers will be elected by secret ballot.

       4) Majority vote cast is necessary for election to any office.

       5) In the event of a vacancy on the Executive committee, a replacement shall be elected by majority vote. If the person selected does not wish to participate in office, the other office members shall handle duties.

Article V: Meetings

    As of now, the members of Tech Offroad meet at Spanky’s at 7:00 every first and third Wednesday of each month. Informal meetings usually occur on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Date, time, and location may be subject to change. Members will be notified when necessary.

 

Article VI:

            Tech Offroad is not involved in any local, state, or national organization.

Article VII:  Activities

            The activities of Tech Offroad will include:

1)      Monthly trips that involve outdoor activities that include camping and recreation.

2)      Planed Social gatherings for members.

3)      Weekly meetings

4)      Community service projects.

Article VIII: Committees

    Committees shall be designated by and report to the executive officer.

Article IX:  Faculty Advisors

            The Advisor abides to the organizations bylaws and is willing to participate in the organization.  The Faculty Advisor for Tech Offroad shall be responsible in making sure the organization is obeying by the rules and regulations of Texas Tech University. 

Article X: Events

      1) All official club events shall be subject to approval by the executive committee. Events will be under the direction of an event committee appointed by the club.

       2) All members must meet the safety requirements to participate in an event. Any guest or applicant for membership in an event is the responsibility of their sponsor member.

       3) All events must be conducted in an orderly manner and with safety as the prime factor. Any event held on private property shall be subject to liability releases.

       4) All participants in an event shall abide by the motor vehicle codes of the state concerned and by the laws and regulations of the city, the county, the US Forestry Service, the US Parks and Wildlife Service or the circumstances involved.

 

Article XI: Amendments

    These By-Laws may be amended by a majority vote at a regular club meeting, a quorum being present and voting.

Article XII: Discipline Action

1)     Any member not performing his/her active duties may be recalled upon majority club vote.

2)      Any member seen to be misrepresenting Tech Offroad may be revoked of membership by majority club vote.

Article XIII: Rules and Procedure

    Rules and procedures shall apply as specified in these By-Laws of Tech Offroad.
